GGI Webinar | International Taxation Practice Group (ITPG) - 16:00 pm CEST

09 October 2024

Chair: Oliver Biernat

During this webinar, we will have three speakers presenting three different topics for around 15-20 minutes each.

The first topic is “AI tools - Is there "one for all"? The presentation will provide a short overview of what is all out there, when thinking about AI-tools. Different needs require different tools. It will be delivered by external speaker Dr Damian Klimke, who is an expert in this field and a manager at taxy.io.

The second speaker will be Ulises Ruiz (Prager Metis International, USA) who will present on the “Tax Cliff in the United States”. The talk covers the already enacted tax increases and changes to some important thresholds (e.g. estate tax exemption) that affect all taxpayers including businesses, foreign investors and individuals. He will describe the changes and suggest areas were taxpayers need to take action or should consider tax planning alternatives that would need to be implemented in 2025.

Last but not least, Oliver Biernat (Benefitax GmbH, Germany), Global Chair of the ITPG, will provide an update on the development of the German jurisdiction in connection with the intended/unintended creation of permanent establishments. This will include what is needed for newly set-up corporations in order to create a fixed place of business so that they can obtain a tax number (virtual office, co-working space, own onsite office?). It will also show how fast foreign enterprises can create a permanent establishment in Germany, when they have staff working in Germany and provide an answer to the weird question of “how much profit must be attributed to a locker?”.
